ABOUT ME

MY STORY

Sarah Lopez is a Polish Mexican American fiber artist whose artistic journey began as a young girl who sketched dresses at family parties. She eventually learned how to knit scarves so she could feel a connection to her grandmothers who made clothes for their families using different plant and animal fibers. Sarah developed a curiosity for how yarn was made, and in 2020, she learned the art of dying and spinning wool. Equipped with a mountain of handmade yarn and a desire to design striking clothing that fit curvy bodies, she experimented with the construction of garments and created a line of completely handmade dresses, skirts, and tops.

These hand-crafted outfits sat untouched in the closet for years, and Sarah decided it was time to re-purpose the beloved textiles. Fueled with curiosity and a dedication to transformation, Sarah meticulously deconstructed those handmade clothes, and re-imagined the custom-made yarn as material for captivating canvases, also known as fiber paintings. These evocative works revolutionize an ancient art into a sensational, contemporary experience that invites viewers to contemplate the power of transformation, embrace inevitable shifts in life, and awaken resilience in the face of adversity. As Sarah explores themes of nature, identity, mental health, and healing, her art reveals the vast beauty and possibility of natural fibers like wool. Sarah is a visionary creator who is on a mission to infuse the world with wonder, one be-ewe-tiful fiber painting at a time.
