Sarah Lopez is a self-developed fiber artist. She is known as the Fiber Painter because she makes her own yarn and then uses it to create visually stunning masterpieces on canvas. Because Sarah dyes, cards, and spins her own wool into yarn, she is known for her extraordinary color palate and enticing textures.

She began her artistic journey knitting scarves to feel a connection to her grandmothers who used different plant and animal fibers to make clothing for their families. In 2020, Sarah learned the art of dying, carding, and spinning wool. For months, she meticulously worked until her living room contained a mountain of handmade yarn. Inspired by her grandmothers, Sarah experimented with the construction of garments, and she created a line of completely handmade dresses and skirts.

These handcrafted outfits sat untouched in her closet for years. In 2023, Sarah decided it was time to repurpose the beloved textiles. Fueled with curiosity and a desire to showcase her exquisite handmade art yarn, Sarah carefully unraveled hundreds of hours of work. She cut the yarn, organized it by color, and glued piece by piece onto a canvas her mom had given her. This experimentation presented the illusion of brush strokes and just like that, fiber painting was born!

Her fiber paintings explore themes of nature, identity, mental health, and healing. Her fiber art reveals the vast beauty and possibility of natural fibers like wool. • Sarah is a part time artist who works as a Program Coordinator for a non-profit that distributes free books to the community and promotes literacy.

• Sarah lived in Brazil for two years as a Fulbright Scholar. She is fluent in Portuguese and is a passionate Forró dancer and Capoerista.

• Sarah was a competitive athlete for two decades! She did gymnastics and springboard diving.
